Heat Wave

The air feels like it's pressing down on you, holding the smog and humidity close to the ground.
Heat Wave is an origami tessellation that uses hexagon, rhombus, and triangle twists to create layers that evoke this pressure.
The symmetries in the pattern turn a usually-hexagonal arrangement of shapes into a flattened structure of rows and columns, with excess paper at the top and bottom showing what has been compressed.
The pattern is shown folded on a 64-division triangle grid on a hexagon of Skytone with light shining through and creating variable colors in places with different numbers of layers of paper.
